Jane Lowe BA (Hons) MSc is University of Derby as Head of Apprenticeships, the strategic and operational lead in the development and implementation of Higher and Degree Apprenticeships. Following a successful £250,000 bid for DADF (Degree Apprenticeship Development Funding) in 2017, the apprenticeship hub was launched.  The Hub provides commercial, academic and compliance support for apprenticeships across the university and has seen a growth in starts of over 30% in 2018. The Hub has been an integral part in the development of the UK’s first Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship , and has lead on 3 successful End Point Assessment Organisation applications. The wealth of experience that Jane brings to the university, comes from being an employer of apprentices since 2003, when she started up a family business. Having seen first-hand the benefits that apprenticeships can bring as an employer, Jane became Head of Apprenticeships at Learning Unlimited in Chesterfield in 2013, growing the business to be the 7th largest provider of apprenticeships in the country.

  • Formulating a partnership between the University of Derby and Nottinghamshire Police to deliver the nation’s first Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) programme
  • Collaborating to develop a workplace learning model tailored to the needs of the police force with content and delivery designed flexibly to support high quality vocational training
  • Sharing insights on the development of the course with a focus on a continued connection between the provider and workplace to ensure progress through successful mentoring and training plans
  • Understanding the role of an academic department in designing a new degree apprenticeship course
  • Exploring lessons and solutions in the challenges of funding, validation and course delivery
