Ann Minton

Academic Lead for Apprenticeships,
University of Derby

Ann Minton is the University of Derby’s Academic Lead for Apprenticeships and University Principal Tutor in Work Based Learning. An enthusiastic advocate of work based learning, largely due to her own personal and professional development adopting this approach, her work develops education programmes integrated within the student’s own workplace experiences. Winning a number of industry awards, Ann has developed bespoke and innovative education solutions for a range of organisations to meet their learning needs, including the developing higher and degree level apprenticeships.  Her work is characterised by strong and constructive relationships between the University and its partners through frequent communication and mutual support and by providing an effective mechanism for extending the mutual partnership approach of working to employer partners.

  • Formulating a partnership between the University of Derby and Nottinghamshire Police to deliver the nation’s first Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) programme
  • Collaborating to develop a workplace learning model tailored to the needs of the police force with content and delivery designed flexibly to support high quality vocational training
  • Sharing insights on the development of the course with a focus on a continued connection between the provider and workplace to ensure progress through successful mentoring and training plans
  • Understanding the role of an academic department in designing a new degree apprenticeship course
  • Exploring lessons and solutions in the challenges of funding, validation and course delivery
