Professor Darryll Bravenboer

Director of Apprenticeships and Skills,
Middlesex University

Professor Darryll Bravenboer is Director of Apprenticeships and Professor of Higher Education and Skills at Middlesex University and a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  He has extensive experience of developing professional, vocational and work-integrated higher education in response to the needs of a wide range of professional sectors in collaboration with employers, including various higher and degree apprenticeship trailblazer groups.  His research interests include the philosophy and sociology of education, higher education policy, fair access, widening participation, lifelong learning and vocational, work-based and employer-responsive higher education. Darryll is Co-Chair of the Higher Education Employer Trailblazer Group; Chair of the Police Education Consortium; Chair of Linking London Higher and Degree Apprenticeships Group; Chair of the SEEC Credit Consortium; Board Director of the University Vocational Awards Council; a member of the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in Apprenticeships Advisory Group; and a member of the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education Provider Panel.

  • Meeting the quality and regulatory expectations of the OfS and Ofsted in the design of an apprenticeship programme
  • Monitoring and evaluating the performance of programme delivery and assessing the progression of apprentices
  • Ensuring ‘off-the-job’ training meets the requirements of employers and matches key performance indicators to support successful skill development
  • Supporting course retention and clear employment opportunities for apprentices following the end point assessment
