Simon Broad

Head of Operations and Development, New Talent Team,

Simon is currently Head of Operations and Development in the BBC New Talent team.  This is a small group based in Birmingham responsible for about 300 apprentices and trainees across the UK in technology, production, business and journalism.  In 2013 he launched the BBC’s first degree apprenticeship (a BEng in Broadcast Engineering) and in 2016 chaired the Trailblazer Group that saw the Broadcast Production Assistant level 3 standard approved and adopted.  For the last three years Simon has been co-ordinating the BBC’s new talent recruitment and assessment activity and has overall responsibility for contracting training providers on the BBC’s various apprenticeship programmes. He is currently looking at how professional or staff apprenticeship might be introduced into the BBC.

Before he joined the BBC Academy in his current role, Simon worked as Head of Service Development in the BBC Strategy Group and before that as a BBC Radio producer. Simon started his career as a BBC Trainee.
